Flea and Tick Prevention Help With Mountainview Animal Hospital

When it comes to controlling fleas and ticks, you can count on us to provide you with the right type of medication for your pet and advice on how to rid your home of flea infestations. If you are looking for a medication where the parasite does not need to bite your pet in order to be killed, we may recommend flea collars and topical treatments. If you are looking for a no-hassle way to control fleas and ticks in your dog or cat, oral tablets/chews may be the right solution. 

Types Of Flea Prevention Medication Available

When it comes to preventing fleas and ticks, there are several different types of medications available, oral chewable tablets, topical treatments and flea collars. Here at Mountainview Animal Hospital, we can help you decide which method is best for your pet, depending on his or her lifestyle.

  • Flea Collars – These are worn around your pet’s neck for 8 months to help prevent flea and tick infestations. In the office we carry Seresto collars for both cats and dogs.
  • Oral Chews – Typically given once a month to control fleas and ticks. In the office, for dogs, we carry NexGard and Interceptor (Flea/Tick preventative), HeartGard (Heartworm preventative) and NexGard PLUS (Flea, Tick, Heartworm, Roundworms and Hookworm preventative). For cats we carry Credelio (Flea, and Tick preventative).
  • Topical Treatments – Placed between your pet’s shoulder blades once a month. In the office, for dogs, we carry Provecta (Flea, and Tick preventative). For cats we carry Profender (Roundworm, Hookworm and Tapeworm preventative), and  NexGard COMBO (Flea, Tick, Heartworm, Roundworms, Hookworm, and Tapeworm preventative). We also carry Revolt for kittens and puppies ≤ 5lbs (Flea and Heartworm preventative).
